Description

Riace B Frankfurt Edition

Displayed here is a coloured replica of the original, complete with weapons and a fur cap. This replica was created by Professor Dr. Vinzenz Brinkmann, the director of the Frankfurt Städel Museum. Based on information from Pausanias, the statue was identified as the Thracian king Eumolpos. Eumolpos, meaning ‘the beautiful singer’, was a Thracian king who settled in Eleusis. He famously engaged in a duel with the Athenian king Erechtheus. His parents were the sea god Poseidon and his wife Chione. Eumolpos was equally renowned as a warrior, a priest of Demeter, and a singer.

The coloured replica was a sensation for months in the exhibition Chroma: Ancient Sculpture in Color at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. A bronze replica of this quality, as practised by us, is currently achievable only with significant time and financial investment. However, please contact us if you are interested. We will be happy to explain what is currently feasible.
