Displayed here is a coloured replica of the original, complete with weapons and a helmet. This replica was created by Professor Dr. Vinzenz Brinkmann, the director of the Frankfurt Städel Museum. Based on information from Pausanias, the statue was identified as the Athenian king Erechtheus. Erechtheus, English meaning ‘Earth-shaker’ is a mythical king of Athens and the founder of the city. He famously engaged in a duel with the Thracian king Eumolpos.

The coloured replica was a sensation for months in the exhibition Chroma: Ancient Sculpture in Color at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. A bronze replica of this quality, as practised by us, is currently achievable only with significant time and financial investment. However, please contact us if you are interested.
