Minimalist design meets modern elegance in the Piscina Palla Pool House. Built from a hot-dip galvanised and powder-coated steel frame, this striking structure is defined by its vast glass surfaces, available in double or triple glazing. Its clean lines and geometric precision create a sense of effortless sophistication, making it a statement piece in any outdoor setting. Finished in Farrow & Ball’s Oyster White, it seamlessly complements contemporary architecture and natural landscapes alike.
With a base measuring 6 metres wide and a total height of 6 metres—including the distinctive white sphere that crowns the roof—this pool house is as bold as it is refined. The sphere itself has a diameter of 45cm, while the side profile of the building extends to 4 metres.
The Piscina Palla stands out with its tiered roof structure, composed of multiple stepped levels that recede slightly as they rise, creating a sense of upward movement. This layered design adds depth and elegance, culminating in a centrally positioned white sphere that completes its architectural silhouette.
The windows and door frames continue this theme, with subtle, stepped contours that reinforce the building’s verticality. These precise design details give the facade texture and presence, while the large glass panels, framed by slim, evenly spaced steel sections, maximise natural light. At the heart of the structure, double doors provide an inviting entrance, finished with solid brass handles and hinges that add a refined touch.
The Piscina Palla belongs to a tradition that dates back to the early 20th century. While swimming pools had long been part of grand estates, it was the 1920s in the United States that saw the rise of the pool house as an independent architectural statement, tied to the growing popularity of outdoor leisure.
As the pool house became a symbol of sophistication, it also made its way into literature and popular culture. Often depicted as a place of indulgence and quiet rebellion, it became more than just a functional space—it represented a retreat from the ordinary. In Alan Hollinghurst’s The Swimming-Pool Library, the pool house embodies the tension between personal freedom and societal norms. And then, of course, there’s the pool boy—the ever-present figure at the edge of high society, blurring the lines between privilege and desire.
In both fiction and reality, the pool house, the pool, and the pool boy form a trio that speaks to themes of exclusivity, beauty, and escape. The Piscina Palla embraces this heritage, offering a contemporary take on a timeless concept—a space where leisure meets architecture in the most captivating way.
