Old Greenhouse – A Grand Orangery for Every Season

Some spaces just feel timeless, and the Old Greenhouse Orangery is exactly that. Inspired by classic European glasshouses, it’s a place where nature and architecture come together in perfect harmony. Combining the elegance of a historic orangery with the strength of modern materials, this octagonal masterpiece is built from hot-dip galvanised steel and finished in Farrow & Ball’s signature colours—designed to last a lifetime.

Double-glazed windows offer excellent insulation, but if you have specific needs, single or triple glazing is also available. Electronically operated roof windows allow fresh air to circulate with ease, and solid brass door handles and hinges add a touch of craftsmanship that’s both beautiful and built to endure.

Description

A Light-Filled Orangery with Timeless Charm

With its octagonal footprint and two distinctive projecting wings, the Old Greenhouse Orangery has a striking yet inviting presence. Measuring 12.5 by 13.4 metres, with a soaring peak of 7.5 metres, it feels spacious yet perfectly proportioned for a garden retreat or entertaining space.

The triple-pyramid roofline is more than just a design statement—it floods the space with natural light while adding a sense of grandeur. Large arched windows, reminiscent of historic orangeries, alternate with rectangular glass panes, all framed with delicate square glazing bars to create a sense of rhythm and balance.

Adding to its classic appeal, the rooftop balustrade recalls the refined architecture of Trianon, subtly elevating the structure both in stature and charm. And for a finishing flourish, gilded finials cap the three roof peaks, catching the light and lending the whole building an air of quiet sophistication.

A Place for Plants, People, and Timeless Gatherings

Once upon a time, orangeries were built to shelter citrus trees from Europe’s harsh winters—but they quickly became much more than that. In the 17th and 18th centuries, these grand glasshouses became a symbol of refinement, blending function with architectural beauty. Nobles and aristocrats built lavish orangeries on their estates, using them as places to entertain, escape, and showcase their most treasured plants.

The Old Greenhouse keeps that tradition alive, providing a perfect home for lemon and orange trees, camellias, and other exotic plants, while embracing modern engineering to make it comfortable year-round. It’s a space designed not just for greenery, but for atmosphere, experience, and enjoyment.

The Ultimate Venue for Everything from Tea to Celebrations

Orangeries have always been about more than just plants—they’re about people. The Old Greenhouse is a space that invites conversation, laughter, and a little bit of magic. Whether it’s an elegant afternoon tea under the citrus trees, a lively garden party, or even a wedding, this orangery transforms effortlessly into the perfect setting.

Flooded with natural light and surrounded by greenery, it’s the kind of place where time slows down, where summer afternoons linger a little longer, and where every gathering feels just a little more special. Whether it’s an intimate dinner, a celebration with friends, or simply a quiet morning with a book and a cup of tea, the Old Greenhouse is a space where life’s best moments unfold.
